Hawa is a Former West African Model from a Beautiful Country known as the Republic of Guinea.
She started Modeling at the age of 16 in Guinea where she graced the runway for the country's Top house of fashion "Terranga Couture" with designer Talibe Bah. At age 21, she moved to Ghana where she went to school studying english, then Business Management at the Graduate school of Management in Accra. While a student in Ghana, Hawa also worked as a model for late designer Ricci Ossey and parcicipated in Fashion shows at the National Theater in Accra in front of personalities like Mrs. Rawling, former first Lady of Ghana.
Hawa Moved to the United States in 1998 and was soon encouraged by a friend to pursue modeling. She participated in the MAAI(Modeling Association of America International) convention at the Waldorf Astoria in NY in 1999 where she competed in five disciplines(Runway, photography, acting, make-up artistry, and team choreography) she won four out of five competitions. Hawa then had several contract offers to Japan, France and New York. She decided to make New york her home and signed with Ophelia devore's own Agency "Grace Del Marco",one of the oldest black model managed agency in the U.S under the leadership of Dee Simmon Edelstein. Right after moving to New York, Hawa started working for Magazines such as Essence Magazine, Upscale, Vibe, NV, Heart &Soul, Mademoiselle just to name a few. She also worked as a print and commercial model doing campaigns for companies like Dudley Cosmetics,Target and the MacNeil Healthcare(makers of Motrin). Hawa was a model on TV programmings like "The View" on ABC "The Today Show" fashion segment with Lloyd Boston on NBC. She also worked on Various Fashion shows with designers like Shapes by Anton, Exodus, the Matrix Show, Manale Bridal Show, The New York Bridal show, The African American & Hispanic Bridal Shows, The Karin Bacon Events at Saks Fitht Avenue, was an Ad and calendar model for New York based African designer MOSHOOD. Hawa was a lead model on Maxwell video "let's not play the game" ( the sound track to movie "The Best Man") where she worked along side actors Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Harold Perrineau. She also worked with celebrity photographers like Jeffrey Gamble, Frank Otten to name a few, and was a cover girl for Paris based African Magazine AMINA and was featured and interviewed by AMINA Magazine on the issue of Female Genital Mutiulation in Africa , a very serious issue that she is still working on very hard today.
Since stepping down from modeling to start her own family ( mother of two beautiful kids) Hawa has utilised her notoriety as a former model to bring attention to her place of birth and women issues. In order to effectively provide services for Guinean girls and women ,She founded the Guinean Girls and Women Empowerment and Leadership Program(GGWELP), through an entertainment company that she owns(NIMBA Entertainment Inc.) www.nimbaentertainmentinc.com
Through NIMBA Entertainment Inc., Hawa Produces the Miss Guinee North America Scholarship pageant, formerly known as Miss Guinee USA scholarship pageant. Hawa is also working on promoting and branding a fashion and textile industry in Guinea.
